Ideally, the main repository should be used in tandem with the following repositories, the idea being that they complement each other. For Fedora Core 4 the only necessity is that Extras is enabled, as these packages are built in a clean buildroot with only itself and the Core/Extras repositories enabled.
Note: Support for DAG / Dries repos ("RPMForge") has been dropped as of 7 April 2005. It may still be interoperable (I believe his RPMForge project is using similar conventions to Fedora Extras which is good and will help greatly) but I personally am not following them.
Occasionally asked questions and issues:
Are you compatible with Fedora Extras?
As of 7 April 2005 I started actively supporting Fedora Extras, so the short answers is yes - I'm an Extras contributor myself after all. However I'm fallible so please let me know if you experience any.
Notes about the build process:
It should be noted that all Fedora Core 4 and later repo builds are performed by use of a "mock" chroot jail on all architectures. This ensures that they are clean and can be rebuilt anywhere. It also keeps me honest in regards to BuildRequires:. :-D
At this stage, Core 3 packages are not built in mock.
These are references to older, legacy applications, packages and methods that I have created
and used in the past, but I can no longer support due to disuse, lack of upstream support or general obsolescence. Do not email me questions regarding these items and use them at your peril.
Legacy FAQs
What happened to your older RPM releases?
I have in the past produced RPMs for Fedora Core versions 3 and 4. However as these are no longer
supported by the Fedora Project or Fedora Legacy (at least at this point in time) I've removed them for
reasons of security (some had fairly serious holes that I had no means of fixing) and sheer age.
Do you support older (pre-FC3) Fedora releases?
I've had a couple of messages asking about Core 1 and 2 support. In short I don't have a spare
build machine or the drive space to maintain FC1 or 2 repositories. I would strongly suggest
an upgrade to FC6 for those that don't mind frequent updates, or CentOS for others.
What about APT?
Apt will have worked fine with the Core 3 repository in almost all cases :-)
However as there is no support for apt repository formats in Core/Extras I'm yum-only for Core 4
and above.
